For what seemed like the first time all season, the weather was perfect for racing on Wednesday night at Buena Vista Raceway in Alta.
A slim field of 7 cars took the track for the IMCA Modified feature.
Brad Williams took the lead from the pole at the start of the 20 laps race, with Brian Schmitt and Stacey Mills racing hard for second behind him.
For a bit it seemed as though Williams would walk away with the lead, but Mills looked to spoil Williams’ party. Mills took the second spot from Schmitt in short order and began to chase down Williams.
Behind him, brother and point leader Jeremy Mills drove from the back of the small field to challenge Schmitt for the third spot while Stacey gave Williams a challenge up front.
With seven laps remaining, Stacey pulled even with Williams, and the two raced side by side over the next few laps.
With five to go, Stacey took the lead and never looked back. Williams briefly challenged back for the lead, but Stacey was simply too strong. Stacey held on for his second win at BVR this season, with Williams a strong second and point leader Jeremy Mills taking third.
The IMCA Stock Car feature saw some new faces up front early, but old faces up front late.
Josh Suhr shot off to the lead from the pole in the early going, and looked strong out in front of Donavon Smith and Stefan Sybesma. However, any early lead Suhr had was erased by a caution three laps in.
On the restart, Donavon showed his strength, rocketing past Suhr and into the lead. Suhr held onto second for the next several laps, while Chris Ullrich and Trent Murphy emerged from the pack into third and fourth in the early going.
Yet another quick caution bunched up the field, and on the restart, Suhr was shuffled back once again, this time being displaced by several drivers. Ullrich and Trent Murphy moved to second and third while Dustin and David Smith moved to fourth and fifth.
While they raced behind him, Donavon drove away and built a large lead.
Dustin worked his way up, moving to third with 7 to go and second three laps later. By the time Dustin got to second, Donavon had built a near straightaway lead. That was erased on a caution with two to go, putting Dustin right on Donavon’s bumper.
However, Donavon was not to be denied. He shot away on the restart, and never was challenged for the lead. Meanwhile, behind him, David Smith moved to third past Chris Ullrich, and challenged Dustin for second.
Donavon cruised to the win, with Dustin holding on to second while David finished third in the brotherly affair.
The Sport Mod feature saw plenty of action in the early going.
The cars raced 4 wide right from the start, and green flag racing didn’t last too long. A caution came out for a spin in turn four, and while everyone looking on was watching the car in turn 4, Doug Smith and Tim Rupp were wrecking in turn two.
The two came together off two, and Doug ended up hitting the wall and rolling his car over, landing on his roof atop the concrete barrier. A visible upset Smith walked away after only two laps of racing.
Once back to racing, Rupp, who had been in the top three when getting involved with Smith, took the lead, while Brett Meyer followed to second past previous race leader Doug Bartels.
Meyer challenged Rupp for the lead with 8 laps remaining, while Eric Puhrmann moved past Bartels for third.
A lap later while fighting off Meyer, Rupp went off track in turn four, and lost several positions while trying to keep from spinning. That gave Meyer sole possession of the lead, with Purhmann moving to second and Bartels back to third.
The top three would remain that way over the rest of the race, with Meyer pulling away over the final laps and cruising to the win. Puhrmann held on to second while Bartels finished a strong third.
The Hobby Stock feature saw a few drivers have great runs, only to be disappointed in the end.
Ryan Roder took the early lead from the pole, and looked to be the early favorite to win the race. Roder built a sizable lead in the early going over Aaron Caskey and Matt Mahoney.  The large lead was erased with 7 to go when Caskey lost an engine.
Roder had all he could handle on the restart when Devin Smith emerged from the pack to challenge for the lead. Behind them, Craig Brotherton and Pat Cross raced with Mahoney for the third position.
Roder and Smith engaged in a spirited battle for the lead that saw the two raced side by side for several laps before Smith prevailed. Behind them, Brotherton and Cross moved ahead of Mahoney into third and fourth respectively.
Smith held on for the win, with Roder crossing the line second and Brotherton third. However, both Roder and Brotherton were found to have infractions during tech inspection, and both were disqualified. This allowed Pat Cross to be credited with second and Mahoney third.
The Sport Compact feature saw Josh Egesdal dominate to take the win. Kyle Hill and Mark Lindgren raced hard for second, with Hill prevailing, leaving Lindgren to third.
